As we enter week four of this unprecedented quarantine, we hope that your family is healthy and that you are all adjusting as well as possible to the new way of life.
Under normal circumstances, if mother nature had been kind to us, we would have started our soccer season by now. However, we find ourselves and our community in a very different position this year. Soccer, along with all other spring sports in New Canaan and throughout CT, have POSTPONED the start of their spring seasons. As we are all aware, the situation is very fluid with many government organizations updating recommendations periodically. At this time, we do not have enough information to cancel all or part of the season, which is in line with the actions of governing bodies as well as New Canaan Youth Sports in general.
Given all the uncertainly about school, youth sports, and COVID-19, we want to ensure you that we are keeping the lines of communication open. At this juncture, we are in a holding pattern awaiting further information from our state, soccer governing bodies, and school district to guide us. Once additional information is available that allows us to see a clearer picture, the New Canaan FC Board will communicate with you about potential reimbursements and refunds if necessary.
We realize that everyone is anxious to get back on the field and are doing our best to allow that to happen, but much of this is out of our control. In the interim, please continue to have your players connecting with his/her team and coaches through the outstanding social media challenges and channels that our dedicated coaching staff have put together. Stay tuned as there will be more coming as well!
Our coaches are one of the cornerstones of New Canaan FC program and we thank those of you who have reached out to us inquiring about them. We understand that many of you and your children share both a professional and personal relationship with them. Unlike many other youth sport programs, the sport of soccer relies heavily on coaching professionals for whom coaching is their full-time job. As you can imagine, cancelling a season will have a major financial impact on our coaches. Our board has been actively communicating with our coaches and providing information as to how they can pursue support through many of the government assistance programs. New Canaan FC is committed to doing all we can to support our coaches in this uncertain time and will keep you updated on how you can contribute as well.
Thank you for your support. Stay strong, safe, and healthy
We hope everyone is staying safe and following all protocols to keep our community safe and healthy through this very different time.
